New York Fashion Week (NYFW) was such an exhilarating and fun whirlwind which exposed me to new designers that I had yet to experience. One notable and exciting show that I had the pleasure of attending for Fashion Designer Dan Liu. If you aren’t familiar with his designs that will all change soon because this label is on the fast track to being a name well-known.

Dan Liu is a Chinese-Canadian designer currently based in Toronto, Canada as well as Tokyo. As if managing his own label wasn’t enough he also is creative director/founder of the TATSUAKI fashion label. His ambition and dedication to fashion are conveyed in his Autumn/Winter 2018 (AW18) Collection which celebrates strong women all around.

His runway show was in fact about a strong, independent woman who was a spy. The music for the show came from the early era of James Bond movies circa 1960’s and 1970’s. The theme music was piped through the studio where models graced the runway in true retro Bond girl fashion with elements of Jackie O.

The silhouettes were a mix of modern femininity combined with perfect tailoring and timeless silhouettes. The inclusion of prints, mixing of textiles, and glam head scarves kept the show unexpected and fresh. His outerwear was the statement of the outfit rather than the garment underneath, making them look impeccable and non-bulky (which is not an easy task to do).

You can tell Dan Liu prides himself on not only beautiful garments but ones that are practical for everyday wear as well. Every piece looked not only stylish but completely wearable for women of every walk of life for multiple occasions. Needless to say, I’m already anticipating his SS19 Collection. See below for my favorite looks from his A/W18 Collection.

Until next time, always be kind.
