This french inspired look makes a bold statement with some color blocking. When pairing the items together, I thought about what could make this black and creme checked print dress by Equipment really pop? Creme jeans and a bold colored scarf was the answer. Here the dress is worn more like a tunic with the Genetic jeans, and the daring mustard yellow San Diego Hat scarf makes for the perfect accent color, playing off the creme jeans and creating a strong contrast off the black. (All of these items are available at VC Boutique in downtown Huntington.)
The black, gold zippered shooties (which are booties, except with an open toe) are by Steve Madden bought from Macy’s. A regular bootie could also be worn with this look; however, I would stay away from knee-high boots, because it would take away from the creme colored jeans, especially since the tunic is a longer length. But, if this were a shorter tunic, knee-high boots would look great!
The black mini book bag is by Cezar Mizrahi (also found at VC Boutique), and by far adds to the French feel of this look, along with the black knit beanie from Express. The black mini book bag is extraordinary, its makes for a great alternative to the normal shoulder strap purse and adds a further ‘interest’ to almost any look.
Remember to always think of your colors and which item is the main item you are creating your look around. Choose that main item and build from there…
