I’m currently in love with the trend of all light colors. An all over monochromatic look is nothing but elegant, because less is always more. However, there is something that says “approachable” when wearing all lighter colors. A person, to me, looks more happy and pleasant. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the all black just like every other woman, but it does stamp a dark label of “mysterious,” especially depending on what items you paired together- you could be called something worse.
A monochromatic look can be achieved with any color of the palette. All white, cream or pastel colored monochromatic looks make a clear statement that say, “Class.” Want to know how you can achieve your own monochromatic look? Follow these tips:
- If you are using a total of three items, you want two of them to be the same color, the blazer and pants or skirt, then the color of your top would be in the same color spectrum but just a few shades lighter or darker, depending on your dominant color. However, an all over white or cream outfit looks great, especially when using different textures in the fabrics. And normally when doing a light colored monochromatic look a neutral shoe will work best. Here, I paired a cream Sam Edelman cross back blazer with cream Genetic skinny jeans. I chose a gold Mink Pink sleeveless top to be my accent color (a few shades darker than the cream), paired with nude French Connection mules and a golden mustard clutch by Hobo. The gold watch is from Michael Kors and the gold bangles are by Golden Stella.
- If you are only using two items to achieve a monochromatic look, make sure the bottoms are the darker color and the top is a few shades lighter. You can do it the other way around, but it’s just more aesthetically pleasing light to dark. For example, a carnation pink top with cranberry colored pants, or a sky blue top with navy pants. Blue, is the one exception of where a darker color top would flow great with a lighter bottom, such as a royal blue shirt paired with baby blue pants.
Now that you have the skinny on how to create you own monochromatic look, give it a try! Until next time.
Always be kind,
Erica
