All too often I hear people say they don’t know what their style is, but really if you take the time to think about the things that you like to wear, it’s pretty simple. Having great style is all about knowing your body and what you feel comfortable and great in wearing. There is nothing worse than going out for a day of work/evening events and not feeling 100% about your outfit, because at the end of the day, feeling good about yourself equals confidence. So essentially, knowing what works for you and best for your body type is the turnkey for successful dressing.
The second tip is being smart about what you buy. My wardrobe includes a lot of staple pieces that never go out of style and is mostly dominated by the following colors: white, black, neutrals, with pops of green, blue and red. Knowing what colors work best with your skin tone is essential. For example, I tend to stay away from yellow because it does nothing for the color of my face nor my hair. When you try colors on look at your face to see if something pops or if it looks more drab. For example, blue and green complement my eyes and is a good contrasting color for my blonde hair, and I feel like red enhances everything (face and hair) in a good way.
My last tip, is to think about your agenda for the day. If you have a function immediately after work then it is best to coordinate an outfit that works well with heels and flats. Saving the heels for evening, of course. Skirts, dresses and culottes are amazing for a flat day transition into an evening of fun in heels. Plus, I don’t care who you are–no one–ever is comfortable in wearing heels all hours of the day, period.
This Rails shirt I adore because it is a staple item that can be worn in many ways. Plus, you can’t go wrong with white and blue paired together for summer. I chose to wear black Frame denim shorts and booties by Joie because I had recently been inspired from watching the Eagles documentary, a classic (the BEST EVER) rock band that originated from L.A., California. I’ve never been to California, yet, but it is on my wishlist to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway in a convertible wearing this exact outfit, plus a chic hat.
Until next time. Always be kind,
Erica xx
