I don’t know how many of you would agree with this statement, but the older I get the more I dread wearing shorts. Obviously, things just don’t feel as nice and tight as they used to in my 20’s. My biggest concern has always been the upper back portion of my legs. You know, that dreadful area that likes to accumulate cellulite first.

And is it just me? Or does anyone else feel like their body wakes up one day and says “Oh hey, you’re in your 30’s, huh? Lets stop burning as much calories and make the work 3x harder to keep up.” This might seem like a rant to some, but if you’re in your thirties then you totally get me right now. I know life is not always meant to be fair, but help me to find the justification behind women getting cellulite and not men?! Let’s face it, men would be lost in our daily struggles, and don’t even go to monthly struggles, they would cry like babies. Okay, enough of that. Let’s move on to ways how we can cover that “crapola” up!

My top three favorite go-to tops when wearing shorts are 1) an oversized light weight sweater 2) a long duster vest and 3) a high-low top (which means its cropped shorter in the front and hangs longer in the back). A couple of tips, the long duster vest is going to provide the most coverage, as well as to the front and sides of your legs. When wearing an oversized sweater it’s important to go up enough in size to cover your rear and to tuck in the front portion so that you can see the shorts you’re wearing.

Sometimes we get lucky enough to find a versatile gem like this high-low soft linen sweater by Eileen Fisher. This is a perfect go-to top for shorts or skinny jeans (especially white ones) because the high-low feature covers up the back upper thighs completely. Hiding any sag or dimples that may be concerning us. I paired it with these metallic print Scotch and Soda shorts, Madden girl slides and a Fallon and Royce bag to show some “sport” for summer weather.

Below I have linked this look and some of my favorite “top three go-to” tops that pair well with shorts or skinny jeans. When purchasing shorts, it’s important to remember this, make sure the circumference is at least an inch to an inch and 1/2 wider than your leg. The extra room prevents your legs from looking squeezed by the material, which in turn, will also make them look smaller.
