Your choice of color has everything to do with making a great fashion statement. Bold, bright colors always attract the eye, but when you combine bold stripes along with it, then it’s almost dazing…
Wearing a colorful look will always leave a lasting impression on a person because it creates an emotion within them. We naturally correlate certain colors with certain emotions, and it can be your most powerful design element if you learn to use it effectively.
You can set a mood, attract attention, or make a statement by choosing the colors you wear. By selecting the right color scheme, you can create an ambiance of elegance, warmth or tranquility, or even present a playful youthfulness about yourself.
A strong engine red color has been known to represent power and aggression, and for some, even raise their blood pressure. While a blue or green creates a more harmonious effect and is more approachable. The color orange can provide a feeling of comfort, warmth and security, while yellow represents friendliness and optimism. Black portrays sophistication and efficiency, and white represents clarity and purity…and the list goes on.
Now, take the psychological effects we just learned and then think about complementary colors. Which are colors paired together that cancel each other out. When looking on the color wheel it is the color across from it. Say for instance, the color blue would be complementary to orange, and purple would be yellow’s complementary color and so forth. This is why playing with colors is so much fun, and not to mention, the most fun to look at. Playful complementary color pairing generates positive emotions in others. This is why bold color blocking statements, such as this BCBGeneration dress that I’m wearing, are so eye catching–almost to the point of a daze. I paired it with an embroidered Johnny Was bomber that toned down the dressiness and added just the right twist for more eased look. I always like pairing opposites together, it’s more interesting, and in a way, makes it more approachable.
