A Careless Summer

It’s crazy to think summer is almost coming to an end. I feel like it was just yesterday when my (now) ex-fiance and I threw the ultimate summer kick off party, which was dubbed ” The F’n Schindler Wine Mixer” by those who attended. It was the kind of party where people jumped in the pool and played basketball until early morning hours. That Memorial Day weekend was truly the perfect kickoff to a nostalgic, careless summer for everyone.

Little did I know how quickly things would change after that night. My ex and I seemed like the perfect couple to everyone who attended, needless to say, we hid our indifferences quite well. Everyone, besides my close friends, was stunned to learn about our relationship ending. However, it truly was in the best interest for us both to go our separate ways. As I always like to say, ‘Nothing great ever comes from comfort zones.’ I spent the most part of June settling into my new place and getting adapted to the new way of life for me and my son. And I must say, we have enjoyed ourselves.

Whether it be nerf gun wars with my friends and neighbor or late night binge watching episodes on Netflix, it’s been a breath of fresh air. I can watch and rent movies as much as I want and when I want with my BFF Pinot Noir (that’s another bonus to being single). The month of July was definitely about taking more time out for myself to just enjoy the present- something too few of us actually do. I am one to normally live with my thoughts always in the future, so I catch myself being hard on myself for not getting more done when I had the free time, but I realized -I needed this time- to be free, to be careless, to just be me.

Eventually, I know I’m going to have to start back on my hour by hour schedule, but for now, I’m just enjoying the present. Until next time. (Shop the look below)
