Anyone who has been to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) will tell you that while it is one of the best and most fun experiences you can have as a fashion enthusiast, it is also pretty draining. It is a grind. A fabulous whirlwind of amazing things, but still a grind.
I felt as though my exhaustion had finally caught up to me the afternoon of the Ruby Fang show. It had been a full day of shows starting early at 9 am with Fang’s being the last of the day at 6 pm. I entertained the idea of a free evening to nap and actually have dinner (proper meals cease to exist during those first 4-5 days). Then I remembered the gorgeous pair of silk, red, ruffled pants made by Miss Fang hanging in my closet and I knew that I simply could not miss it.
Needless to say, I could not be happier that I made that decision. When I walked out of the show I turned to my friend and said, “That show just gave me life.” Let’s just say, Ruby Fang is your go-to designer for exquisite, one-of-a-kind gowns for any black tie event.
So who is the woman behind all the magic? Ruby Fang is a haute couture brand that was conceptualized in 2012 in Paris by Miss Fang. Through two years of preparation time, she traveled extensively through 20+ countries, searching for inspiration in the likes of the Louvre in Paris, the Uffizi in Florence, and the New York Metropolitan Museum, until she finally launched the brand in 2014.
As a pioneering brand, they are devoted to creating designs that celebrate the prestige and fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetic styles. Ruby Fang has an extensive background in business administration that includes education at Harvard, Georgetown, and a double master degree in law from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Fang set out to create unique designs that helped her express the innocence of a dream-seeking young girl in the mature world of fashion.
The SS19 collection certainly had an ethereal quality but also packed a punch. Bold silhouettes, feathers, crystals, lace masks over the models’ faces, and sleek makeup walked that perfect line of coyness and confidence. It was a memorable show that I will never forget.
Ruby Fang was once quoted saying, “We want to tell every girl in the world: make your life a legend that is worth telling.” I can say with certainty that any girl would feel like a legend in one of her special pieces. I love that Miss Fang wants girls to not only have beautiful clothing but wants them to have a beautiful life as well.
This is a designer that will be on my radar for future collabs, 100%. Words cannot express my anticipation for her next collection. Until next time.
Always be kind,
Erica xx
