The modern boho is all about creating an outfit with a bohemian feel to it, but yet not screaming I’m a total hippie. Does that make sense? Don’t get me wrong, I love bohemian, back in my early 20’s I probably wore that style almost everyday. But as you get older you begin to modify things to match your age. And then there comes a point where you have to ask yourself, “Does this style match my personality?”

Most of us have jobs, kids or go to school. Generally what happens with our style as we age are three things, 1) a person loses their sense of style due to their life roles, 2) a person doesn’t know how to convert their style to match their age, or 3) a person is able to adapt and establish their own style with ease. Generally, one and two are caused by lack of time, so people place themselves on the back burner and stop caring what they look like.

Well I’m here to say, STOP THAT. Remember this is your life too, and when you look good and feel good that’s when you are at your best. God didn’t put us here to not enjoy ourselves. So for those of you who I’m defining right now, take some time to pick up the latest edition of Instyle magazine or Google looks that you would like to achieve with items from your own closet. The most important part to remember is that your style is an outer reflection of you to others. Unfortunately, we are all judged by our appearance, it’s human nature–so at least try to dress well. As Tom Ford says, “Dressing well is a form of good manners.”

My style has definitely evolved over the years, and as I age, I don’t dress head-to-toe in any one particular look. I like incorporating items like this Ella Moss dress with other accessories, such as the Sam Edelman booties and the Good hYouman necklace, which create a light-heart bohemian feel in a subtle manner. This look says modern boho because of the structured purse by Foley+Corinna, which adds a touch of sophistication, and by the Michael Stars wide brim fedora, which adds a little masculinity as well. Keep in mind, this dress could be worn with heels and no hat and give a completely different look, so remember, it’s all about how you accessorize 🙂 Until next time.

Always be kind,

Erica
