It’s pretty much safe to say that we will all be wearing “comfy” clothes this fall season. The fashion world was hit hard this year by Covid-19 and with many uncertainties still remaining some of those fashionable pieces are getting harder and harder to find. After Covid-19 hit, there was a total of $280 billion dollars worth of clothes canceled from being manufactured. Retailers were forced to pivot their strategies to be more centered around loungewear. It isn’t much of a stretch to say that’s what the remainder of 2020 looks like for fashion.
Retailers who normally purchase for spring apparel in August and September are now waiting until November to see if consumer behaviors change, which for now, remain focused on comfort and skincare rather than glamour.
I think we can all agree that we miss getting dressed up for special occasions. The only dressing up these days for me happens from the waist up for zoom calls, lol, and maybe the occasional dressy-casual look for a dinner date outside. Until a vaccine is made available, I think the fashion world will remain heavily focused on comfort and ways to revamp your loungewear for fall and winter. Women are opting for more cardigans and knit blazers to add a touch of professionalism instead of a structured suit jacket while working from home.
Personally I have been wearing mostly boyfriend cardigans, sweatshirts, yoga pants, joggers, t-shirts and jeans nearly everyday. I don’t think I’ve worn a dress once this summer, which is shocking because I’m a huge fan of maxi dresses!
But, you know, like all things we adapt, adjust and go with the flow of life. And right now, that’s Covid-19 life.
