Lan Yu (LANYU®) is a designer that I fell into by chance but I have been hooked ever since I had the pleasure of attending her SS19 show (read about here). If you follow this blog you know that I am a huge fan of Asian designers; they are always on the cutting edge of fashion and seem to constantly be 10 steps ahead in the style/design game. I know when I go to one of their shows that it will be an unforgettable experience and LANYU AW19 was certainly no exception!
Known for craftsmanship, intricacy, and implementing traditional techniques handed down in her family there is a reason celebs like Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga, and Katie Holmes are all clients of LANYU. For the AW19 season, the Chinese designer based her collection off of fairies as portrayed in literature and cinema. The juxtaposition of the fairies being magical creatures but having human-ly features, their mischievousness mixed with being enchanted truly inspired the designer and it shows. Wanting to represent a world with limitless freedom without any constraints or boundaries, LANYU captured her own special kind of magic with her AW19 Collection. Listing Tinkerbell, the Fairy Godmother, and the Blue Fairy as inspiration for the collection each piece was truly more enchanting than the next.
What sets LANYU apart from other designers is her attention to detail. Models glided down a hot pink carpet in metallic fabrics, flawless embellishments, delicate lace, and flowing silks. The combination of exquisite fabrics and effortlessly chic designs turned this collection into a mystic sight to behold.
I’m not sure where the mastermind of designs, LANYU, will take us next, but I genuinely hope I get to come along for the ride again.
